Modular bus system

One solution for many networking options

The modular bus system (MBS) from Georg Schlegel can be integrated into several communication systems. Expansion modules (e.g. for RFID) can be added.

Components (pushbuttons, switches, etc.) and services for different industrial networks are part of Schlegel's portfolio to serve individual customer requirements. Thus, the company created a solution that can be used independently from the networking system. The modular bus system (MBS) can be integrated into CANopen, Profibus DP, or AS-Interface, as well as Industrial Ethernet networks such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Ethercat, or Powerlink is possible. Recently, the IO-Link integration possibility was added as well.

For integration, the external network (e.g. a CANopen node) has to be connected to the MBS’ basic module. Every communication of the basic module is made via the internal proprietary data bus regardless of the external system. Each basic module type has eight inputs and eight outputs and is designed in a mounting grid of different sizes for installation into front panels. The design is individually adaptable.

An expansion module offers additional inputs and outputs. Connecting it via a cable, up to 128 additional units such as pushbuttons, selector/key switches, pilot lights etc. can be operated. Another expansion module includes an RFID interface and provides eight additional I/Os for further control elements.
